Our Mission Statement
Ever read someone’s mission statement and said to yourself, “what a bunch of B.S.!” You said that because their interactions with you are not congruent with their “mission.” They said how much they want to “exceed your expectations,” and they could not even MEET them.
About a year ago, we began a list of customer promises. They transcend B.S mission statements. They simply state what we are committed to in our customer interactions and relationships. Things we do because we intend to do them.
They are NOT goals. They are NOT missions. They are NOT hype, or marketing driven (like most mission statements). They ARE promises TO customers, AND commitments that WE have made to ourselves, and deliver to everyone we connect with.
If we were to answer our phone with “press one, press two…” we would automatically lose. No matter what you do, every customer or client hates us before we say a word.

North Shore LI REALTOR gives 25% of his commission to charity – every time
By C.J Thomas
So let me get this straight: Mel Beech gives 25% of his commission to charity? In my name?
Yeah, I think that’s how it works. I get this realtor, Mel Beech to help me find a house. He makes a commission when I buy it. From what I remember the commission is 4 or 5% of the house’s selling price. So if I buy the house for $800,000.00 for example, Mel and the other realtor who worked with the seller split a commission of $32,000.00 total or $16,000.00 each.
But then… while the other realtor receives all or most of the $16,000.00 (their broker/office usually gets a portion), Mel receives $16,000.00 and gives the remaining $4000.00 to the charity of my choice. I get to make the donation. I write the check. I get the tax deduction.
So what’s the catch?
I met Mel at the Meville Mariott yesterday to ask him about that. The thing is, there isn’t a catch. He just wants to do this. He just wants to help the community raise money for charity and is a strong advocate for The Alzheimer’s Association. What makes this so odd, mostly, is that no one else is doing this. He’s done the research and cannot find a realtor anywhere in the area who is giving away so much of their commission – and in their clients’ names. I mean, I think about moving once in a while, but this makes me want to go house hunting immediately. It’s kind of unbelievable.
Lots of people want to help the community, but how many can take 25% of their income and give it away, and not even in their own name?
But still you’re wondering… what’s the catch? Let me break this down for you:
…he’s independently wealthy? Mel used to be wealthy-ish, but Mel recently lost a family member to Alzheimer’s and made a promise to himself and started to feel good about his life and knows he is on a mission to do good for all those suffering with dementia. He is now trading wealth for health and happiness. Go figure.
He’s taking a cut somewhere else? Nope. He’s met with accountants, lawyers, entrepreneurs, lots of people to make sure he’s doing this in a straight-up, totally kosher way.
He’s doing this as a marketing gimmick? He’s not, actually. But think about it… even if he is… so what? He gives 25% of his commission to charity. Nice gimmick.
He’s a little nuts? I know why you’re thinking this. You’re thinking this because you think realtors in general are greedy or lazy or a little bit of both, so he must be a kind of crazy. But REALTOR’s can be cool people and Mel’s not crazy. He’s extremely sane, in fact. And he’s definitely not greedy or lazy. He worked his butt off for years to become one of the best realtors he could be, before starting this program on his own.
The thing is, there is no catch. He’s just a super nice guy. I hope you’ll hire him or refer him to someone you know who’s looking to buy or sell their home. Because it might be fun writing a big old check to the nonprofit of your choice.
